Profile Builder · Settings & DPI

Device-wide settings that live outside individual bindings — DPI select, polling rate, lift-off height, LED, debug and game device.

The Settings tab edits the device settings of the currently selected group. Everything here is stored as a hidden profileChanged system event mapping inside that group and applies automatically when the profile activates. Press Apply settings to write your changes into the profile.

Sections in order: DPI Levels → Device → LED → OLED Display → Behaviour.

Groups keep their own settings

Each group/sub‑profile keeps its own settings. That's how you make two layers behave differently (e.g. a high‑DPI "sniper" sub‑profile).

1. DPI Levels

A list of X × Y DPI presets the Z3 can cycle through at runtime (and the values the DPI selection action uses).

  • Each line: two number inputs X × Y, range 0–32000, step 50.
  • + Add level adds a new line that duplicates the last level (handy to then tweak).
  • Level 0 in the list is the default the device starts on.
  • Blank profile ships with a single 800 × 800 level.

The matching action — DPI selection (see bindings.md):

How Behaviour Value
select Set DPI to an absolute number 0–32000 (default 800)
index Pick a level by position in the list level index
next / previous Cycle through the levels ignored
increase / decrease Step the current DPI up/down by Value step size

Bind next/previous (or increase on a deep zone) to a button for on‑the‑fly sensitivity changes mid‑game without touching settings.

2. Device

Setting Options Notes
Polling rate 125 / 250 / 500 / 1000 Hz Higher = more responsive reporting; 1000 Hz is the modern default.
Lift-off 0.7 / 1 / 2 mm Height at which the sensor stops tracking. Lower = stay on the pad; higher = work with heavy drags.
Game device none / joystick / gamepad none = plain mouse (default). joystick/gamepad activate the virtual device that the Joystick button / Joystick stick and Alternate outputs actions feed. Required for tilt‑pivot free‑look (see tilt-and-pivot.md).

How the virtual device feels:

Plain mouse mode — nothing extra is emulated. The default for a blank profile.

Registered as a virtual joystick: the Joystick button / Joystick stick and Alternate outputs actions feed it. This is what tilt‑pivot free‑look builds on.

Registered as a virtual gamepad: regular buttons you bind also surface as gamepad buttons/sticks to the OS. Same relation to tilt‑pivot as joystick.

Older profiles may carry other lift‑off values

The current builder only offers 0.7 / 1 / 2 mm, but older hub profiles (e.g. 3–8 mm) still load and round‑trip 1:1 — you just can't set those via the dropdown anymore.

3. LED

  • Mode — off / fixed colour / hue rotation.
  • Brightness — 0–100 (step 5). In action form (per‑trigger LED), a Duration (ms) (10–20000) lets a hue‑rotation "breath" stop after a set time; in the group settings it stays on.

4. OLED Display

The profile's startup screen (persistent OLED display):

  • Mode — the raw mode names: profile, customMessage (with a Message ≤ 32 chars), dpiLevels, deepClickForces, cube, batteryLevel, tiltAngles, image (with a hand‑drawn or pasted 64×32 bitmap), off.
  • Full reference in oled-actions.md.

Any trigger can override the screen later with OLED display / OLED frame / OLED animation actions.

5. Behaviour

Setting Default What it does
Auto-release enabled On trigger release, every key/button the binding told to hold down is released for you. Disabled = keys stay stuck until you send a matching release action (deliberate sticky‑key or chord setups).
Tilt auto-zero enabled Re‑calibrates "level" whenever the IMU idles. Keep it on unless you deliberately rely on a fixed starting angle (then zero manually with the Zero tilt/pivot action).

6. Group/settings switching quick recipes

Sniper sub‑profile: create a sub‑profile → Settings → DPI Levels 400 × 400, apply → bind Top Thumb → Select profile (next). Tap to toggle the whole device into sniping (DPI + OLED + lift‑off) and back.

On‑the‑fly sens: any button → DPI selection (increase, 200) as a deep zone on Right Fingertip; release can't hurt because DPI holds between presses.

Device check on boot: Settings → OLED Display → deepClickForces so the LCD shows your live force axes every time the profile loads — a built‑in sensor self‑test.

7. Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely cause
Settings don't do anything You're editing the wrong group — Settings edits the selected group only; the changes live in its profileChanged event. Select the right group, Apply settings, then Save/Publish.
DPI action snaps then instantly resets Another group's profileChanged (or a later system event) overrides DPI at activation — check both the target and the parent/sub groups' settings.
Joystick actions do nothing Game device is still none. Tilt‑pivot needs joystick/gamepad enabled.
New level appears as a copy By design: + Add level duplicates the last level so editing is one tweak away.
Hue‑rotation LED stays on In action form set a Duration; in group settings it's persistent — set mode off or lower brightness.
